Many people buy the off the shelf cake mixes. These are ok and have gotten better over the years but the last few we have used here I have noticed that the flavor is just not there. So I have looking for ways to punch them up a bit. So try these the next time you need a cake or cupcakes for something.
For a strawberry cake mix try using strawberry margarita mix in place of the water.
For all most any cake mix substitute butter milk for the water but add 25% more since the butter milk is thicker than water. Will also need to add about 1/8 teaspoon of baking powder per 1/2 cup of buttermilk. This is due to the increased acid you added.
